Curator’s Corner: Paiute Basketry Past & Present
July 22 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

July 22nd, 2026, from 10 am – 12pm
Basketry has been used by the Paiute people for thousands of years for daily tasks such as processing, storing, and cooking food, for carrying personal items like clothing, tools, or children. For the Paiute people, basketry is interwoven into every aspect of their lives, past and present. While Paiute basketry has changed through time with the introduction of commercial materials and dyes following colonization, the art of Native American basket weaving has stayed the same.
Come see examples of historic and contemporary Paiute basketry on Wednesday, July 22nd (10:00 AM – 12:00 PM) at the Nevada State Museum, Carson City’s Curator’s Corner hosted by Loretta Burden (Northern Paiute contemporary weaver and artist) and Anna Camp (Curator of Anthropology).
Curator’s Corner takes place every Wednesday This Summer – Included with Admission
Curious minds encouraged. Questions welcome. Fun guaranteed.
