Nevada State Capitol Tours & Information

Whether you’ve got five minutes or two hours, the Nevada State Capitol and Battle Born Hall Museum within are a great first stopping point when discovering the rich history and heritage around every corner in Nevada’s capital city.

Like so many buildings across the Silver State, the Nevada State Capitol is an icon of our history. Completed in one year’s time from 1870-71, the structure is defined by its silver-colored dome and Alaskan marble features. A bronze statue of Sarah Winnemucca—a 19th-century Paiute educator and author from Nevada’s Great Basin who advocated for the rights of American Indians—is prominently displayed in the lobby, along with portraits of Nevada governors and other legendary Nevadans. You can also check out one of Carson City’s newest museums—found within the south wing of the Capitol—at Battle Born Hall.

Capitol Hours & Admission

The Nevada State Capitol is open to the public Monday thru Friday from 8 AM to 5 PM, and Saturdays from 9 AM to 3 PM.

The Capitol is closed on Sundays.

Admission to the Nevada State Capitol is free to the public.

Battle Born Hall

Opened in October 2018, Battle Born Hall showcases Nevada’s history both before and after statehood in a 2,000 square foot space. The museum features everything from Indigenous history, the early mining boom, early Carson City in the 20th Century and the present day of Nevada in the 21st Century. Many of the exhibits are interactive and are both engaging and educational for all ages.

Battle Born Hall is located upstairs in the south wing of the Capitol building. Admission is free to the public.

Self-Guided Tours

You may discover these historic grounds at your own leisure on self-guided tours from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday. Self-guided brochures are available at the security desk. These brochures will give you a walking tour of the Capitol that you can do at your leisure.

Guided Tours

Guided tours are available of the Nevada State Capitol on Saturdays from 10 AM to 3 PM. Tours are approximately an hour and occur at the top of every hour (e.g. 10 AM, 11 AM, 12 PM, 1 PM, and 2 PM). Tours start at the front steps of the Capitol. Guided tours are subject to volunteer availability.

You may also request a guided tour on weekdays. Private guided tours require at least two weeks’ notice and are subject to volunteer availability. To reserve a private tour on a weekday, please click the button below.
