As the Nevada State Museum prepares to celebrate another year sharing Nevada’s unique history, the Friends of the Museum are again offering an opportunity for new and experienced volunteers and tour guides to learn more about our region, history, and the State Museum.

Volunteer and tour guide training is scheduled for Monday and Tuesday, September 25 and 26. New and continuing volunteers will explore specific cultural aspects of the indigenous peoples who lived in the Great Basin; their use of plants for food and medical purposes; and be introduced to the dynamic and historic mining industry in the state. During a subsequent training day on Monday, October 2, Museum programs and tours will be conducted for new volunteers and others interested in increasing their understanding of the Museum and the State Capitol.

The two-day, no-cost training will offer volunteers and tour guides with the opportunity to meet with the Museum exceptional curators and staff as well as other volunteers. New volunteers will be able to choose where they will be a good fit, as they participate in the training.

Registration is required. For more information and to register, contact the Nevada State Museum’s education office at nsmeducation@nevadaculture.org; 775-687-4810, ext. 237.
