New Tour Guide Training Scheduled for March 2022

CARSON CITY, Nev. — Do you love Nevada history, and, more importantly, do you love sharing that knowledge with others? If so, the Nevada State Museum has a perfect opportunity for you. The museum is recruiting for volunteers to help share Nevada’s natural and cultural heritage. Participants will get a multi-day in-depth jaunt through the museum’s collections and operations.

The Nevada State Museum was voted 2021 best museum of Carson City. It couldn’t have received that recognition without the cadre of volunteers who help daily, said Director Myron Freedman.

The upcoming training sessions are Monday, Mar. 7; Tuesday, Mar. 8; Monday, Mar. 14 and Tuesday, Mar. 15 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. New volunteers will be given a comprehensive tour of the museum and collections centers, training in museum presentation, and a tour guide handbook. Existing volunteers will learn about what’s new at the museum and upcoming programs. This training will also highlight Stewart Indian School, historic Coin press No. 1, and science programs.

“It is so much fun learning about Nevada and meeting nice people who visit the museum from around the world,” said tour guide Jan Davis. “And all the volunteers are helpful, friendly and just great!”

The training is free and comes with a tour guide handbook and name tag. Space is limited, so participants can reserve a spot at NSM Connect: Activity Registration (nevadaculture.org)

New volunteers will need to complete a new volunteer application. For more information check out our Volunteer Opportunities page.

The museum is at 600 N. Carson St. in Carson City. Face coverings must be worn inside the museum by all visitors. Regular museum admission is $10 adults and free for members and children ages 17 and younger.
