Natural History Curatorial Postcard 9-23-20

Did you know there are 14 to 15 types of snakes living in northwestern Nevada? They range in size from eight inches to five or more feet. Their body colors vary from bright red and black, to neon green, to dull grey and tan. These creatures eat everything from spiders and bugs to fish, frogs, mammals, birds and even other snakes. Probably the most seen snake is the Great Basin Gopher Snake, which is often confused with the second most observed, the Great Basin Rattlesnake.

Dr. George Baumgardner, Curator of Natural History, will discuss and display model and preserved examples of these animals at the Nevada State Museum Curator’s Corner from 1:00 to 3:00 pm, on September 30, 2020.
