DESCRIPTION:Demonstrations of Coin Press No. 1 in the historic Carson City Mint happen every Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. \nOn minting days\, visitors may purchase a voucher for a one-half troy ounce .999 fine silver planchet in the Museum Store and watch it be struck on Coin Press No. 1. While waiting for their newly minted Medallion\, visitors can listen to knowledgeable docents give a detailed interpretative history of the coin press and the Carson City Mint. Planchet voucher sales begin at 11 a.m. on Saturdays. Already minted medallions can also be purchased in the Store six days a week\, Tuesday-Sunday\, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. \nFor more information about the Coin Press and commemorative medallions\, contact Coin Press Program Manager Kelly Brant at 775-687-0657 or kbrant@nevadaculture.org

After dark\, toxic ooze distorts the exhibit halls into a place of horrors\, revealing terrifying history that should have stayed in Nevada’s past.  \nDescend into the historic Mint Building’s basement catacombs for a behind-the-screams tour as the museum’s secrets come alive. \n$15 per person (One ticket covers as many tours as you dare.) \nNot for the squeamish. Visitor discretion is advised.

Then come on down to History Hot Takes: An Evening for the Chronically Curious\, where we will have the best of the best speakers blowing your mind with their history knowledge! \nThis month’s event: Dust to Dust in the Desert: Stories from Nevada’s Graves & Cemeteries by Tami Force \nNevada’s cemeteries are full of names that don’t quite match the ground beneath them. A “maiden” who wasn’t one. A famous grave with nobody in it. A whole burial ground packed up by men who called themselves Official Ghouls. A nameless man whose stone only records what he ate. An outlaw whose marker misspells his name and gets the year wrong. \nThis talk follows those stones across the state—emigrant trails\, boomtown yards\, and lonely desert plots—and the stories that stuck even when the bodies\, the names\, or the cemeteries themselves did not. \nAdmission: $15 per person ages 18 and up\, free for ages 17 and under\, and free for Members.
