Description
On April 15, 1869 Abe Curry was named the first Superintendent of the Carson City U.S. Branch Mint. We will be celebrating Abe Curry and all that the mint means to Carson City on Saturday, April 20, 2019, 150 years later. At 10:00 am we will have a recreation of Abe Curry receiving word that he will be the first superintendent. Starting at 10:30 am there will be special tours of the The Mint and the neighborhood where Abe Curry lived. At 12:30 pm we will pause for cake and punch. From 12:00 pm-4:00 pm we will be minting the Abe Curry Medallion on Historic Coin Press No. 1 in the Historic Mint building. There is limited space on special tours, tour sign up will be on a first come first serve basis on April 20th.
You can buy your own silver plancet at the museum store and have it minted in front of you.
Admission is $8 for adults, members and children age 17 and under are free.
Doors open at 8:30 am.
