Presentation:

The recent discovery of the wreck of USS Nevada (BB-36) 65 miles off Pearl Harbor in three miles of water made news around the nation and world.  The lead archaeologist of that mission will take us down to the shattered wreck of Nevada and offer insights into the last moments of USS Nevada, discoveries made, and the technology used to find and survey Nevada in the eternal darkness of the deep Pacific. We will also hear from Nevada State Museum Curator Emeritus Bob Nylen about the museum’s collection of USS Nevada (BB-36) artifacts.

Presenter:

Dr. James Delgado is the Senior Vice President of SEARCH, Inc., the largest cultural resources company in the United States.  In the course of his five-decade long career, Dr. Delgado has worked on over a hundred shipwreck projects, including the wrecks of USS Arizona at Pearl Harbor, the sunken atomic bomb target fleet at Bikini Atoll, the aircraft carrier USS Independence, and Titanic.  He is the author of over thirty books on naval, maritime and underwater archaeological topics and frequently appears on National Geographic’s “Drain the Oceans.”

Curator Emeritus Bob Nylen worked for the State of Nevada for 37 years at the Nevada State Museum. During this time he has done research, writing, and lecturing about Nevada’s rich history. This will be his first presentation since retiring in February of 2020.
