Description
On Thursday, August 27th we will log onto a Zoom meeting to enjoy the next installment of the Frances Humphrey Lecture Series.
Description: The history of Virginia City has captivated historians and the general public for years. The stories of deep shafts, massive fires, and millions of dollars in silver production have dominated the story of Virginia City. While these topics are important what would life have been like in the Queen of the Silver Camps? This presentation will focus on the human story of Virginia City starting in 1851 overlooking the Carson River and end in 1883 over three thousand feet below the Virginia Range.
Presenter: Garrett Barmore is the curator of the W. M. Keck Earth Science and Mineral Engineering Museum at the University of Nevada, Reno. Barmore received his Master’s Degree in Museology from the University of Washington and specializes in professionalizing small museums. Garrett is very interested in Nevada mining history and has worked as a historical archaeologist in Nevada.
