Description
The presentation will include a brief summary of the geological history of Nevada with an emphasis on the formations associated with gems, minerals, and rocks that can be found throughout the state. Lots of photos will illustrate the variety of specimens that Nevada has to offer, and links will be given for self-guided collecting excursions.
Jonathan Price is the Nevada State Geologist Emeritus. He was the State Geologist and Director of the Nevada Bureau of Mines and Geology, a research and statewide public service unit of the University of Nevada, Reno, from 1988 until 2012. He earned his Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley and has worked in industry, academia, government, and consulting, mostly in the areas of mineral resources, geological hazards, and environmental issues related to geology. He is a past president of the Geological Society of Nevada, Geological Society of America, Society of Economic Geologists, and American Institute of Professional Geologists.
