Description

Many people in the Carson City area know of the Nevada State Museum, but some may not be aware that this iconic structure was built as a United States mint.  Despite structural changes, this building still holds architectural secrets from its rich history. Some of these secrets can still be seen by museum visitors … if they know where to look. Please join us for a presentation to include the first public airing of a video highlighting these lesser-known features and a special viewing of piece of artwork that was hidden within our walls for decades.

Presenters:

Laurel Weil studied for 3 years at the Academy of Art, San Francisco specializing in 3-D computer modeling and animation and received a B.A. Degree in Art from Sierra Nevada College. Prior to her joining the Nevada State Museum she had 14 years work experience that included videography, animation, sculpting, traditional and digital art/graphics. She volunteered in the NSM Exhibits Program before becoming a fulltime Exhibits Preparator in 2019.

George D. Baumgardner is the Curator of Natural History at the Nevada State Museum. His 23 years working at this institution gave him sufficient knowledge of the museum complex to allow him to help with this project.

This program is $10 for adults, members and children age 17 and under are free.

There will be a live in-person presentation and a Zoom presentation.
